Inspirational Themed Wedding Ideas
If there is one piece of advice that I’ve come back to time and again, whether that be for your wedding or life in general, it is that you should do things your way. This often leaves traditionalists shaking their heads and wagging their fingers, but ultimately you can’t go around trying to please everybody, so it’s best to just try and please yourself. Now that’s something I can help you with.
Obviously we can’t outline your perfect wedding. That’s down to you and your partner. But if you’re feeling a bit hesitant about expressing yourselves through your wedding, we’d like to offer some inspiration to you in the form of couples that clearly had no hesitation at all.
Most couples have something in common, and these days it really isn’t surprising if it has something to do with TV or film. Ask yourselves, is there a program or a film that you’re both hugely passionate about? Why not centre your wedding around that? Here are a few couples that have done just that.
Joshua and Merideth’s Harry Potter Themed Wedding.
For anyone who knows anything about Harry Potter, you’ll know that it is a rich and elaborate story that consistently focusses on love. For these reasons alone a Harry Potter wedding is an excellent choice for anyone who loves the books.
The best part is half the work is already done for you. Table names are simple – you’ve got the four Hogwarts houses, invitations are sent in the form of a Hogwarts Express ticket via platform 9¾, and their guest book was themed as the Monster book of Monsters. It really couldn’t be simpler to have a magical day.
Perhaps if you want to give it a go you could take it one step further and make the Unbreakable Vow…
Joshua and Jennifer’s Star Wars Themed Wedding.
There are a lot of people out there who love Star Wars, but this couple took their passion to a new level by incorporating elements of it into their wedding without completely doing away with tradition.
The bride and groom were escorted to the venue by Storm Troopers, and they had a lightsaber fight for their first dance. The father of the bride even dressed up as Darth Vader, which is, quite frankly, perfect.
For some people, music says a lot about your personality, people often identify themselves by the genre of music they listen to. And if that is something that connects you and your partner who are we to pass judgement? Why not have a wedding themed around your favourite band or music genre? These guys did:
Lauren and Con’s Punk Rock Wedding.
Mohawks, skulls and a general love for everything anarchy. That’s what makes a punk, and a punk isn’t likely to have themselves a traditionalist wedding (although if you think about it, wouldn’t that be rebellion in itself?).
For music lovers Lauren and Con who met at a rock gig and who like to go to gigs together, the choice to have a punk rock wedding was easy.
As Lauren puts it: “We had concert tickets instead of normal invitations, we had skulls on pretty much everything and Con rocked a bright red mohawk!”
The Michael Jackson Themed Wedding.
By now we should all realise that pretty much anything is possible in Las Vegas. Apparently this includes a Michael Jackson themed wedding in which a skilled MJ Tribute will sing you two songs and then marry you.
This just goes to show that anything goes when it comes to getting married.
There is no limit to what sort of wedding you have. It’s your wedding, so it’s your rules. If you want a zombie wedding, who are we to stop you? Love Shrek? So did this couple. How about a Game of Thrones wedding? We’d perhaps advise against that one, given the track record of the show.
But the best part is, it can be as simple or as detailed as you like. It could be as simple as having a wedding in the winter, or as full on as having a Medieval themed wedding banquet in a castle. The only limits are your imagination.
In some ways a wedding is about being accepted for who you really are. It is a celebration of living your life with someone that knows all about your strange quirks and potentially embarrassing passions, and lets face it, if the most important person in your life accepts you, who cares what anyone else thinks?
