Top 5 European honeymoon destinations
Let’s face it, as much as we love the idea of getting married and sharing that huge special day with all of our loved ones, what we’re really looking forward to is the honeymoon. Dedicated days of blissful alone time, whether it’s spent lazed on a beach or drinking in the culture. We’ve rounded up our current European faves to give you some inspiration for planning that deserved break.
Santorini. The destination of orange-hued sunsets, where whitewashed buildings cling to the cliffside, rising above the sapphire waters of the Aegean Sea. Santorini has been turning on the charm for years. Catch the sunset from the hilltop village of Oia, take a tour around a vineyard or a microbrewery and don’t forget to gorge on some seafood on a cliffside terrace in Fira.
Boasting one of the most entrancing vistas in our list, Positano is famed for its tumbling sprawl of nude pink, terracotta and yellow houses. Sit on the beach with a slice of pizza and some gelato, hit the boutiques for some retail therapy or just find a terrace and sip on a Campari until the sun sets.
Old world romance can still be found in Bruges, where chocolate shops line cobbled streets and waterways meander between ancient houses and castles. While away the hours in the Groeningemuseum art gallery, climb the Belfry for a breathtaking city view or sip on a beer in the Markt.
Gelato, boat trips and pink sunsets await in Venice, the palatial city built on a grand canal. Take a boat trip along the waterways, get your culture fix at an art gallery or the opera, or just get lost in its myriad of streets all boasting breathtaking architecture.
No no, we cannot possibly complete a list of top European honeymoon destinations without mentioning Paris. Embrace the cliché, visit the Eiffel Tower, go shopping along the Champs-Élysées and spy the Mona Lisa in the Louvre. Or go left field and swap the Eiffel Tower for the Montparnasse Tower, take a cookery class or go dancing in Port Saint-Bernardé.
