Wedding Guest Style SS17
Wedding season is officially upon us, and while you might be looking forward to a summer of eternal soirées, the stress soon comes when it’s time to decide what to wear. So, to give you plenty of inspiration for the season, we’ve brought together some of the best in wedding guest style for spring/summer 2017.
Occasion-wear can be a tricky category to master – most of us don’t wear it often, and we’re usually far more comfortable styling our jeans and everyday tops. We’ve found a few key styles for occasion dressing this summer…
If you haven’t yet heard of millennial pink there’s no doubt you’ve seen it. This soft pinky shade is the colour of the season, and it’s the perfect hue to hunt for in your quest for a wedding guest dress. It also looks super chic in jumpsuits, tailored trousers and longline blazers. If you’re more of a look-at-me dresser, hot pink was also hitting the catwalk this season, so hunt for anything in this uber girly shade and you’re on to a winner. Coast are all about the pinky tones this summer.
Florals are always a go-to for wedding season, but this summer we’re ditching the ditzy prints and heading towards bold blooms and bouquets. Think botanical patterns intertwined with animals, tropical palms and plenty of summery colours. Keep it current and look for embroidered flowers on sheer floaty fabrics, ruffled dresses and cold shoulder cuts. Ted Baker has got strong floral game this season.
Stripes are definitely having a moment. Think Riviera chic, Breton striped summer dresses, wide striped culottes, and pinstripe boyfriend blazers. Pair them with bold, solid coloured shoes and accessories to let them sing.
Let’s face it, we women think we have the raw side of the deal. Every wedding we search for a brand new dress, while most men rock up in the same suit they’ve been sporting for the last few weddings. But if you’re a man who wants to step up their style game, here are a few tips for spring/summer 2017.
A summer wedding is the perfect excuse to indulge in a little colour. Step away from black, navy and grey suits, and instead look to lighter shades of blue, green and even nude pink to enrich your palette. If you’re not quite brave enough to go the whole hog with a coloured suit, mix and match your jacket and trousers – think chinos with a linen jacket for a more relaxed wedding feel. We love Duchamp London for its use of colour this season.
Skinny suits have been the go-to smart staple for some time, but the silhouette is loosening up on the catwalk, so we’ll soon start to see in on the high street too. Start incorporating a looser silhouette with relaxed trousers, turn them up at the cuff and wear with some contrast sole brogues to keep it stylish.
A suit is a suit, right? Not if you accessorise it like a style pro. Personalise your look with all the dapper accessories, from pocket squares, lapel and tie pins, to cufflinks, shoes and socks. We love the likes of Paul Smith for some unique finishing touches this season.
We hope we’ve given you some style inspiration for this summer. Let us know if you’ve found any fashion gems or if you’ve got any tips you’d like to share with our readers in the comments box below.
