Wedding hair trends for 2016

by | 3 August 2016 | Hair & Beauty

Whether you want a classic chignon or free flowing bohemian tresses, we’ve got the hair inspiration for you. We’ve already given you our top ten tips for beautiful bridal hair, so here are our top wedding hair trends for 2016.

The mid-wave

This hair trend channels this season’s love for combination hair, marrying a soft mid-wave with straight ends. Start with a middle parting, straighten the hair, and then use the straighteners to create two to three bendy waves at ear level. Leave the style loose, or finish with a delicate crown hair piece to add to the romance.

The modern chignon

The chignon is a perennial wedding favourite, but this season it gets an update, with more texture and a double knot finish. Curl random sections of the hair to start, then form a loose side parting and separate the hair into two ponytails. Twist both sections of hair into the classic chignon shape, underpinning the ends and keeping the overall look dishevelled and dreamy.

Bohemian braids

Braids are all the rage from the catwalk to the sidewalk, and their girlish, graceful feel is perfect for brides. This trend is all about creativity, so feel free to have a play yourself or head to a braiding expert for some inspiration. Start by rough-drying your hair to create plenty of texture, and then look to everything from French braids, Dutch braids and fishtails, to milkmaid braids, four strand plaits and crown plaits for inspiration.

Fairytale florals

Hair flowers have long been a favourite for brides, but this season’s catwalks were filled with floating flowers, which give the look a softer finish. Start with a textured down do – lots of loose curls and waves – and secure flowers sporadically around the hair, making sure to scatter them down the length of the hair to give them a floating, ethereal effect. The key to this look is movement and texture.

Sweeping waves

Waves are big this season on the high street and the catwalk, but they’ve long been a favourite for brides. Natural texture is crucial for this style, and big, sweeping waves will give you a relaxed, voluminous feel.

Minimal hair up

Minimalism has arrived on a wave of the nostalgic 90s, and the minimal up-do is perfect for the classic, chic bride. Look to timeless red carpet stars for inspiration, think low and simple chignons that still have a bit of movement.

Beach chic sleek

One for the trendsetting bride, this style is taken straight from the catwalks of Fendi, Givenchy and Roberto Cavalli. Think sleek, wet look, glossy locks, pulled away from the face and with a minimal feel. Glossy finishes are the key to keeping this look chic and wedding-worthy.
